Evidence Based Trauma Treatment for Children and Youth

Abstract

Exposure to traumatic events and experiences does not discriminate against age, gender or race. Though not all children and youth exposed to trauma experience difficulty, many experience significant adverse effects that impede their cognitive, physical, psychological, affective, interpersonal and behavioural functioning The focus of this paper is to review the literature on the effects and needs of children and youth exposed to traumatic events, analyze current evidence based treatments, and explore emerging treatment modalities.
