  • Webinar Description: Since the 1990's, the use of opioids increased by an order of magnitude and despite significant increases in medical treatments (imaging, medications, and procedures) for conditions such as back and neck pain, joint pain, headaches, and abdominal pain, population disability rates have not improved. Chronic pain now affects an estimated 1000 million Americans and costs our nation roughly $635 billion/year in medical expenses and lost productivity. More importantly, opioid misuse/abuse and chronic pain are destroying lives, families, and communities. The two public health problems of opioids and chronic pain are intertwined and we all have a vital role in play in improving this state of affairs.
Please join us as Dr. Bobrow presents current public health efforts to thwart two of the largest national public health epidemics of our generation. The reality is that it won't be quick or easy, and will require an in-depth understanding and sustained, systematic approach to both issues. Changing our opioid misuse and chronic pain trajectories requires a major shift in mindset in which we simultaneously focus our attention and resources not only on the supply side but also just as resolutely on the demand side. You won't want to miss this presentation.
